Some that come to mind for me:
Takopi’s Original Sin
Mob Psycho
A Place Further Than The Universe
flcl is a tight 6 episodes and the sequels added nothing
I prefer shorter shows so here’s some that tell a complete narrative even if the timeline itself may not be that long.
Cowboy Bebop
Your Lie in April
Welcome to NHK
Ping Pong the Animation
Moribito - Guardian of the Spirit
Silver Spoon
Tap for spoiler
To name a few
Scrapped Princess is the best example I know of. It’s a near perfectly told story, moving as it goes along from a small and simple story of three people traveling together to literal world-spanning drama, and ending with all of the threads neatly tied up.
Others that come to mind:
Cowboy Bebop
ODDTAXI
Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song
Akudama Drive
Heike Monogatari
Kokkoku
Steins;Gate - I know there’s SG0, but… SG, as is.
edit: and, Erased.
Just any 1-season anime original or complete adaptation, really. Lain, Tatami Galaxy, Katanagatari, Now and Then Here and There, Madoka, to name a few favourites. It’s a shame if being ‘complete’ is being considered a rarity nowadays, I don’t think there’s really anything special about it. I don’t usually enjoy series that go on endlessly.
What does it mean to be
“most complete” in terms of execution
?
I guess it’s not just about the story, otherwise there is no need to specify execution.
But it’s also not just one that’s only well-produced, right? Otherwise, you’d have specify that instead.
A second season of Panty and Stocking was wholly unnecessary now. I honestly would’ve been cooler with accepting the cliffhanger of last season. So much unneeded depth and exploration, and so much inconsistency with last season. The second season horribly betrays the values of the original, I feel, so much that I’ve actually lost some respect for Imaishi to be quite honest.
