  • How are they going to enforce any of that on a company with no office in Australia? Answer: They can’t.

Then how am I still able to access youtube, facebook and all the others without needing to give them my ID?

You think youtube and facebook don’t have offices in Australia?

That’s a lot of text just to say “I’m an idiot who loves bending over for the government”.

I’m simply telling you what the government is telling social media companies that allow Australian users to create accounts on their websites

You can change your DNS all you want mate, I’m just saying it won’t make a difference

  • Then how am I still able to access youtube, facebook and all the others without needing to give them my ID?

DNS translates domains like youtube.com into IP’s like 1.1.1.1, this has no bearing when you make a social media account in Australia:

It’s not a ban, it’s a delay to having accounts.

This means there will be no penalties for under-16s who access an age-restricted social media platform, or for their parents or carers. However, age-restricted social media platforms may face penalties if they don’t take reasonable steps to prevent under-16s from having accounts.

    https://www.esafety.gov.au/about-us/industry-regulation/social-media-age-restrictions

As of 10 December 2025, Facebook, Instagram, Kick, Reddit, Snapchat, Threads, TikTok, Twitch, X and YouTube are required to take reasonable steps to prevent Australians under 16 from having accounts on their platforms.

If you have an australian account registered with those websites and they suspect you are under 16 you will have to verify your id

As explained here the platforms will need to check:

    https://aussie.zone/post/27246692/20254931

How can under-16s be stopped from finding a way around the age restrictions?

Platforms may assess age-related signals which can help work out if someone is under 16. These signals can include:

how long an account has been active

whether the account holder interacts with content targeted at children under 16

analysis of the language level and style used by the account holder and the people they interact with

visual checks, such as facial age analysis of the account holder’s photos and videos

audio analysis, such as age estimation of the voice of the account holder

activity patterns consistent with school schedules

connections with other users who appear to be under 16

membership in youth-focused groups, forums or communities.

Platforms may also use location-based signals which can help work out if an account holder usually lives in Australia and could be using a VPN to pretend they don’t. These signals can include:

    IP address(es)

    GPS or other location services

    device language and time settings

    a device identifier

    an Australian phone number

app store or operating system or account settings

photos, tags, connections, engagement or activity.

Evidence of these age and location signals is expected to trigger the age assurance process, or review of an account if it has already been checked.

    https://www.esafety.gov.au/about-us/industry-regulation/social-media-age-restrictions/faqs

On top of this there are plenty of services that block VPN’s, most famously Netflix.

So yeah, changing one aspect of your account while leaving all the others won’t get around the ban

    Edit: Nice alt accounts, loser.

This is my primary account and always has been? What’s with the loser? Why so cranky?

Joke is Black Friday deals are more expensive than other times of the year.

You should have laws against that

Michael Hill advertised a “Member Event 25% off Sitewide” sale on its website, implying that all products sitewide were discounted by 25% for members, when some products were not discounted.

MyHouse promoted their sale with ads stating “Up to 60% OFF RRP EVERYTHING ON SALE“, followed by “+EXTRA 20% OFF”. The ACCC considered this misleading as the additional 20% off did not apply to all products.

Hairhouse Online’s “SAVE 20% to 50% SITEWIDE” promotion was misleading because more than a quarter of the products available on its website were excluded from the sale offer.

Ensure discount claims are genuine: Only advertise discounts where products have been genuinely offered at the higher price for a meaningful period. Avoid creating artificially inflated “was” prices solely to support discount claims. This also applies to displaying the RRP price next to a discounted price – if the product has not recently been sold at the RRP price, this could be misleading.

Document pricing decisions: Maintain records of previous pricing to support any discount claims and demonstrate compliance with ACL requirements.

What is the point of so much unlimited everything when we are limited ourselves? No one can “reap” all the benefits so what’s wrong with taking it easier?

We do take it easier though, unfortunately the average person is unaware of how much more difficult life was 100 years ago so we can’t compare. I wouldn’t want to go back to even the 90’s, pre-fibre internet, slow computers, no spotify, I love listening to music so I had to wake up at 7am in the morning on Saturday to listen to the music TV show. I had to listen to the friggin radio man! It sucked!

Is more really better or just different?

We have different challenges living as kings and queens than we do before but we really are in a much better place than even 30 years ago, pre-smart phone, pre-computer, pre-wikipedia, pre-google

An example is obesity is now a bigger problem than hunger because we have access to so much cheap great tasting empty calories

But it’s certainly better to be obese than starving, you can stop being obese by simply working on yourself, can’t really do much about starvation if you’re poor and can only afford 1 meal every 2 days.

The other issue is the rise of social media and the infected spreading doomerism (see: this thread as an example), doomerism spreads faster than positivity, in the same way people prefer to read about bad things happening than good.

OP is rather clearly expressing that people do it as a means to increase their wealth specifically

    Good for them?

he didn’t use that money to live a lavish lifestyle but instead used it to fund more projects that he was interested it

    Good for him?

Nobody holds a gun to your head and forces you to buy a lambo, if you want to FIRE or become a power lifter or do something else go for it

It’s ultimately about effort, easiest example is people who spend 2 minutes a day on Duolingo and expect to become fluent in their chosen language and those who grind it out and spend hours a day working on it because they want it.

You may not necessarily enjoy it but you do it, it goes back to discipline etc last post here

No matter how hard you grind, minimum wage is minimum wage and inflation is inflation.

This makes no sense, if you are grinding you should be improving, I have no idea how you got the idea that grinding means working 80 hours a week in a shit job to go no where.

This is like pre-grinding: aim higher than a minimum wage shitjob? who seriously aims this low?
