cybersecurity@infosec.pub•What are You Working on Wednesday
4·29 days agoBeen playing with a Raspberry Pi Zero clone (Orange Pi Zero 2W) to make a portable travel router + app server + party box + development environment. Basically seeing what all I can cram into four 1.5 GHz cores and 4 GB of RAM in a Pi Zero form factor.
Its primary upstream is wifi (but can use ethernet or USB tethering with some reconfiguring) and also presents an access point. AP, ethernet, and USB ethernet gadget interfaces are bridged into the “LAN” segment.
Has multiple VPNs (one for privacy and one for connecting to my internal stack), PiHole for DHCP services and ad blocking, PairDrop for sharing files, CodeServer for development, MPD and Snapcast for listening to music (plus another Pi Zero to act as a satellite speaker), Kiwix with the full 120 GB dump of Wikipedia and pretty much every dev doc I could load, Calibre Web with most of my book collection loaded, and Searx-NG to provide a portable search engine that’s not infested with AI and SEO slop.
It’s also running Nginx with real Let’s Encrypt certs so all the web apps it hosts are properly running behind HTTPS.
Still working out some kinks / hardware quirks and don’t have the scripting automation complete to cast from Bluetooth to Snapcast server, but that does work on the bench.
I call it the “Quirky Turkey”.

Literally me for decades. My astigmatism wasn’t diagnosed until 2-3 years ago despite yearly (or semi-yearly) visits to the optometrist. Thought that was just how lights looked in the dark lol.

5·2 months agoBryan Cranston kind-of? He had some minor movie roles before television and then larger movie roles after.
Will Ferrell, technically. Plus most of the other SNL actors who started there and did films later (though many of those were based on SNL skits). Tina Fey, though, plays it straight. She started as a writer, joined the cast of SNL, and did TV and movies later. Granted, I wouldn’t call any of them “movie stars”.

Oh, I’m sorry to hear that!
“No, I mean pour.”
I drove fast through what I thought was just a puddle. Splashed a bunch of water up under my car, and my dashboard looked like that for a week lol.
Just gonna have to swipe right and find out.
If you do, post it!
He could just be on vacation? Someone just pointed out earlier today he hasn’t posted in 2 weeks.
No clue, but it very easily could have come from the one I grew up in.
The_Picard_Maneuver is MIA, so I dove into my ~2014 era meme folder and am posting some golden oldies

memes@lemmy.world•Rest in peace J. K. Simmons, (17th of September 2025). Thankyou for your amazing performances over the years. Hope you feel well rested when you wake up tomorrow morning.
121·2 months agoI hate you. I hate you. I hate you 😆 Also well played.
Read half the title and immediately tabbed to Wikipedia to make sure “is” wasn’t “was”.

memes@lemmy.world•We had Twitter in the 90s and didn't even know it.
7·3 months agoI loved the simplicity of it. It did one thing, and did it well enough.
They had an early mobile app (BREW I think), but it was pretty awful.
I think SMS gaining popularity killed it, and they were too early for the “What’s App” era that ultimately killed SMS in a lot of places.
Is this picture…what? AI generated? Not that I’m aware of. I just searched for a stock photo of an old lady knitting and this was one of the results. Just grabbed it and added the text.

TBF, that’s like half the email replies I get when I ask a basic question.

memes@lemmy.world•My work enabled Gemini in Workspace this week...
11·3 months agoIt is managed, but I can disable smart features and remove it as an app. But it still pops up constantly (basically like an ad). If you try to do anything from the pop-up, it tells you it needs to be enabled to work. So, it knows it’s disabled but still shoves itself in my face as if I accidentally clicked into 4 different deep settings pages to disable it lol.
I can and do use FF, but I use Chrome for Workspace because … stupid company policy reasons. It works in FF, but the way they have SSO configured, you get logged out every 45 minutes.

26·3 months agoGoogle Workspace (what the company I work for uses for collaboration).
- I don’t want Gemini/AI. At all.
- If you disable it, it still pops up constantly.

Is that the plugin that blocks the increasingly unfunny clock memes in c/ProgrammerHumor?
