      你吃了吗? (literally translates to “have you eaten?”) can be used as a common greeting in some Chinese dialects, to the effect of “hello”, “good day”.

        Thank you for clarifying!

        While I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s gotten watered down, like “how are you?” in the US, that’s actually pretty wholesome/nice.
