France was on strike today so I walked to work… I need better shoes for that
He died at the age of 42.
counterpoint
Not gonna lie, this would be a halfway decent demigod in a fantasy world. Just A Guy who walked so much that he ascended to a higher level of understanding.
I think this is the goal of most true “adventurer” tropes. The moniker is genericized and relates to someone who gets in a lot of fights now, but its original meaning is someone that I picture is eager to explore new lands, with nary a luxury to them, relying on the kindness of people he meets, and exchanging useful tricks and information he’s come across.
The trick is to have a dog. You can walk anywhere, at any time, and people won’t even notice you or will just take one glance and think, ahh, just someone walking their dog, nothing suspicious or weird about that
This guy burglarizes.
Get’s the cops called on him since he is brown, and the cop curb drops him into a hospital.
“Just walking, Mr. Mead?”
“Yes.”
“But you haven’t explained for what purpose.”
“I explained; for air, and to see, and just to walk.”
“Have you done this often?”
“Every night for years.”
The police car sat in the center of the street with its radio throat faintly humming.
“Well, Mr. Mead,” it said.
“Is that all?” he asked politely.
“Yes,” said the voice. “Here.” There was a sigh, a pop. The back door of the police car sprang wide. "Get in.”
“Wait a minute, I haven’t done anything!”
“Get in.”
That was a new one for me, thank you kindly. It’s Bradbury through and through, felt like a companion work to Fahrenheit 451. Can’t decide whether to think of it as a prequel or a sequel…
Thanks for the read!
I once walked 20 Kilometers, then I was tired, so I walked back.
- Has so much money he can walk all day without becoming homeless.
You have very different walkers in your neighborhood than I have in mine
he’s talking walk walkers not street walkers
The absolute best time for you to walk is when you’re exhausted after working. Trust me, try it.
Or, they already are homeless.
Meanwhile my knees: AHHHHHHHHH
Not relatable? Just a me problem?
What good are legs if you can’t even walk?
have you considered unaging ?
Like eating a lot of Japanese eels?
Do you even squat, bro?
It’s not as bad if you walk ‘off trail’ in cities/suburbs. I’m convinced that a lot of the Runner’s Knees has to do with pounding cardio on hard-packed Earth, asphalt and concrete instead of forested/green areas.
Beach here, my knees don’t hurt no.
Yeah, I can even notice the difference when doing plyometrics on my wooden living room floor versus on the tiles in the garden (the lawn is very shitty and can’t take it).
The lawn, I feel that pain. Field sports on a dry pitch is a little like doing it on stone once it dries out enough due to lack of rain, that shit can really hurt, even without getting tackled down onto it lol
Lose a little weight, get good shoes, gentle stretches before walking, see a doctor to make sure you’re not doing actual damage. Maybe try walking on dirt/sand/grass too, asphalt and concrete are rough on your body.
Everyday
- everyday: mundane, usual
- every day: daily
I think OOP is in the wrong lane.
Til there’s a distinction
We have this guy in our community! All day every day just walks all over. I know nothing about him but he walks and mumbles to himself
I’m that guy, but I stick to the surrounding forests and trails, mumbling to myself, scaring off the animals. Since we humans so rarely encounter one another out there, I suspect I’m something of a goddamned samsquatch.
“Little guy, looks like a tacticool homeless man? Always armed? Crawls up out the woodwork when you don’t expect him? Yeah! I saw him once! Didn’t really seem drunk, but he was waving his beer around and holding forth on the local ecosystems.”
“That’s the guy!”
It’s maybe me I’m a big walker
I do love a good walk.
My two favourite are a beautiful hill/mountain walk in the sun with a light breeze to keep me cool or at night through a sleepy town or village with a light fog where the orange streetlights shine through.
Both are so peaceful, it helps calm my anxiety.
Walks are so good for anxiety - some light exercise, a little bit of sun, time to collect your thoughts without screens or distractions. It’s sort of meditative.
Don’t forget that your odds of finding and petting the roving neighbourhood cats increases as you walk more vs. driving.
And the potential for finding loot.
I’ve found neat things on the side of the road by walking around my home, ranging from brass knuckles to a case with 3 Nintendo Switch cartridges inside. I tried to find the owner of the games (probably a kid who dropped it when getting off the school bus) but was unable to.
My wife and I sometimes cruise the hood looking for goodies on the side of the road. I could go on forever with what all we’ve dragged home.
Got a nice radiant stove a few months back, all but new, very clean. One night we scored a brand new wine fridge, huge one, along with a nice solid-wood desk for my son and a brand new countertop oven, never used.
LOL, she often hits the flea market and drags home $200+ on a Saturday with all the crap we find. I’m thinking of going all in since I can’t find an IT job.
I like the cut of your jib. The real gems I’ve found were literally that, rings and earrings of varying quality/value. I credit video games for the habit, it always pays dividends finding random partially-concealed valuables on the ground. This doesn’t even count the number of (rarely) full/half-full packs of cigarettes, which sometimes contain other substances from nugs to hash and beyond.
Agreed. I can find it hard but I try to not use headphones to listen to music or an audiobook every time I go for a walk. I’m trying to get myself comfortable with my own thoughts and let them wash over me so my brain can eventually calm and relax without distraction.
Just let the walk itself be the gentle stimulation.
My idea of a good walk is weather cool enough to wear jeans and combat boots, and a fight to get through the forest and find new spots on the creek, or new spots in general. Huge bonus if I get some wildlife in my sights. Saw a black bear momma with two cubs last winter!
I’m at maximum peace when I crawl out, safe and sound, about to drop dead and thank god I’m still alive, hydrated, and didn’t get hurt or stuck overnight.
My wife likes your sort of walk, and I would too, now and again. We walk around the hood, far more boring than your walks. :)
AI slop (partly)?
I’m not sure. There’s just no joke. It could be that’s the joke. Or maybe it was made by someone who really likes walking.
And what’s this?
And how the fuck is the text formatted?
A glimpse into the reality that AI has zero understanding of what things actually are, it’s only a machine designed to make really good guesses. So good that it seems eerily “alive” at times, but that’s just because we’re dumber and simpler than we think.
It doesn’t know what words are in images, it just knows how they’re roughly supposed to look. It’s gotten good at not just guessing a bunch of vaguely “letterish looking stuff” but it still makes mistakes. For now.
Something I just read past, apparently!
As one does.
My thoughts, too. The body of the guy might be generated, because no human being would draw side pockets on a t-shirt.
On the other hand, drawing pockets somewhere because you just realized that the way you drew the arm means the hands wont reach the pants, and you really don’t feel like trying to draw a hand, is something a human might do.
Since we are doing hand puns, you’re reaching.
No, it’s just not that funny.
Even shitposts are too much effort to make by oneself nowadays, huh?
Need AI to do even that.
